چکیده

Abstract The purpose of this work is to study an example of low Mach (Froude) number limit of compressible flows when the initial density (height) is almost equal to a function depending on x. This allows us to connect the viscous shallow water equation and the viscous lake equations. More precisely, we study this asymptotic with well prepared data in a periodic domain looking at the influence of the variability of the depth. The result concerns weak solutions. In a second part, we discuss the general low Mach number limit for standart compressible flows given in P.–L. Lions’s book that means with constant viscosity coefficients.

A preconditioned solver for sharp resolution of multiphase flows at all Mach numbers

A preconditioned five-equation two-phase model coupled with an interface sharpening technique is introduced for simulation of a wide range of multiphase flows with both high and low Mach regimes. Harten-Lax-van Leer-Contact (HLLC) Riemann solver is implemented for solving the discretized equations while tangent of hyperbola for interface capturing (THINC) interface sharpening method is applied ...

Low Mach Number Limit of Viscous Compressible Magnetohydrodynamic Flows

The relationship between the compressible magnetohydrodynamic flows with low Mach number and the incompressible magnetohydrodynamic flows is investigated. More precisely, the convergence of weak solutions of the compressible isentropic viscous magnetohydrodynamic equations to the weak solutions of the incompressible viscous magnetohydrodynamic equations is proved as the density becomes constant...

Multiple Spatial Scales in Engineering and Atmospheric Low Mach Number Flows

The first part of this paper reviews the single time scale/multiple length scale low Mach number asymptotic analysis by Klein (1995, 2004). This theory explicitly reveals the interaction of small scale, quasi-incompressible variable density flows with long wave linear acoustic modes through baroclinic vorticity generation and asymptotic accumulation of large scale energy fluxes. The theory is m...

v 1 2 9 Se p 20 05 Low Mach Number Modeling of Type Ia Supernovae

We introduce a low Mach number equation set for the large-scale numerical simulation of carbon-oxygen white dwarfs experiencing a thermonuclear defla-gration. Since most of the interesting physics in a Type Ia supernova transpires at Mach numbers from 0.01 to 0.1, such an approach enables both a considerable increase in accuracy and savings in computer time compared with frequently used compres...
